This report addresses the ongoing war in Congo's eastern Kivu provinces, focusing on its importance to the nationwide peace process. The paper introduces the history of conflicts and wars in and for the Kivus. it also sheds light on the political priorities and objectives of the different parties involved and identifies the political economy of the wars that circles mainly around the region's natural resources such as coltan. Finally, the paper reviews ways for finding sustainable solutions for the Kivus.
