This report addresses the political and economic crisis in Zimbabwe before the background of economic meltdown, government-created food crises and deepening state-sponsored violence. The paper introduces different facets of the crisis and sheds light on the international discord that exists among major regional and international actors with regard to Zimbabwe’s development. Subsequently, the paper assesses options for progress and reform, including the succession of President Mugabe and inter-party talks. The paper argues that reducing international pressure would be a grave mistake and would reduce the chances for reform.
