This paper examines the factors of India's domestic, foreign and security policies as an emerging great power. It describes features in India’s historic background that have directly influenced its contemporary great power ambitions and discusses India’s most difficult separatist problem, namely Jammu and Kashmir. The paper also describes how the need for a stable energy supply has become one of India's most serious security concerns. The author concludes by analyzing emerging US interests in establishing a strategic cooperation with India.
