This paper examines the prospects of security in Afghanistan and in the Greater Central Asia region. The study considers the US-led Operation Enduring Freedom in the context of the security challenges a new Afghanistan is facing, and outlines potential factors for positive change for Afghanistan and its neighbors. The authors conclude with a set of recommendations for the US government.
