This paper analyzes US policy in Afghanistan. The author examines the challenges the US faces in Afghanistan and considers how Washington should go about the tasks of developing the Afghan national army and police, strengthening the government, improving administration and speeding up the pace of reconstruction. Additionally, the paper examines the ethnic and regional balance in the Afghan government.
