This report addresses the collapse of the Mecca Agreement between the Palestinian organizations Fatah and Hamas, commenting on the seizure of the Gaza strip by Hamas and the new Palestinian government under Salam Fayyad. The paper summarizes the breakdown of the Agreement, investigates the violent seizure of the Gaza Strip and explores the consequences. Subsequently, the paper sheds light on Israel's response and international reactions. The paper asks whether it is possible to ensure security and move toward a two-state settlement with a politically and geographically divided Palestinian polity.
