This briefing explores state and development of Uzbekistan two years after the violently suppressed uprising in Adijon, commenting on the end of the president's legal term of office, economic hardships and the suppression of opposition forces. The paper addresses Uzbekistan's domestic situation, including the political and economic situation, human rights, civil society and terrorism. Subsequently, the paper assesses the limited impact of the EU's policy toward the country. The paper argues that there is little outsiders can do to influence political events inside Uzbekistan.
