The CTTA edition focuses on the so-called Islamic State´s (IS) growing presence in Southeast Asia. The featured articles look at 1) IS´ capture of Marawi in the Philippines and what the battle for the city means for the spread of extremist ideology in the region; 2) the evolution of online extremism in Malaysia; 3) the theological justification for suicide bombing given by Al-Qaeda, IS and other terrorist groups; and 4) how Muslim extremists distort the theory of abrogation and the Qur´anic ´verse of the sword´ to legitimize violence.
