This paper provides an in-depth, gendered analysis of the data that’s available on violent deaths. The text’s authors work through the global, regional and country-specific conflict/non-conflict numbers, and note the following – 1) the vast majority of those who suffer violent death are male; 2) there has been an overall decrease in the violent death rates in non-conflict countries for both men and women; and 3) the proportion of female deaths in conflict areas such as Afghanistan and Syria has increased.
