This paper examines the curse of and reasons for the violence in Pakistan's strategically important province of Balochistan, commenting on regional demands for autonomy and the military's response. The author introduces the Pakistani military's policy toward the Sardars and analyzes the applied divide-and-rule tactics. Subsequently, light is shed on the grievances of the Baloch people and Islamabad's reactions and reviews the government's attempts to create discord among the nationalists. The paper underlines the importance of free and fair elections for the future of the conflict.
