This briefing paper discusses events that have furthered the border conflict between Eritrea and Ethiopia and suggests measures to prevent a renewed fighting. The paper outlines the tense situation at both countries' borders, introduces the conflicting views with respect to the Boundary Commission's ruling and reviews the work of the Commission. Subsequently, the paper examines Ethiopian and Eritrean attempts to use regional proxies in their struggle and suggests steps necessary to resolve the crisis, commenting on the policy of the US and the UN Security Council.
