This paper analyzes the underlying military, political, and ethnic dynamics of the civil war in South Sudan’s Unity State, specifically from 2013-2015. Unfortunately for the country, these forces quickly overwhelmed the political objectives of both sides and aggravated the divide between social elites and Unity’s governor. As a result, we should expect the low-level conflict in South Sudan to sputter on into the future.
