This paper analyzes the US’ Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) strategy, which involves 1) promoting peace and security in the region, but without US military forces playing a direct combat role, and 2) abandoning aid-driven development for development driven by economic growth. Given the latter shift, the text’s author closes by recommending ways for the US and EU to increase their cooperation in the SSA region.
