This paper discusses the significance of the July 2007 Upper House elections in Japan for the political future of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The author details how after only ten months in office, Abe faces a make or break situation with the elections. The paper concludes that if Abe must leave office because of a poor performance of his Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in the elections, he will at least have shown that he went down as the "fighting politician" that he aspires to be.
