This paper provides background information and policy recommendations on the Georgian political crisis from early November 2007. The authors conclude that the crisis resulted primarily from a breakdown in state and society communication, with the failure of the Saakashvili administration to account for or manage the growing popular discontent with its radical socio-economic reform policies. The paper explains that the opposition coalition was additionally boosted by the financial and media clout of well-known oligarchs as well.
