This paper addresses the near breakdown of Sudan's Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) due to the Sudan People's Liberation Movement's (SPLM) retreat from the government. It introduces the calculations and approaches of the SPLM and its coalition partner, the National Congress Party (NCP), regarding the crisis and reviews the reasons that justified the SPLM's suspension from government which are mainly related to the distribution of wealth and oil. Subsequently, the paper comments on the role of the international community. It calls for the development of a more transparent and inclusive approach to the scheduled elections.
