This paper looks at how local populations perceive private security companies (PSCs) and what the impact of their activities may be on peoples’ every day lives, examining the two country cases of Afghanistan and Angola. The authors state that one of the central findings from the two country case studies is the overall negative view toward PSCs, suggesting that they contribute to a sense of distrust and insecurity. The paper offers some recommendations on how the concerns of the local populations could be better addressed.
