This paper examines the presidential succession process in Russia. Specifically, it considers institutional changes in the context of Putin's "power vertical" including legal aspects. The author concludes that the state’s foundations are shaky and its propensity towards domestic violence and external aggrandizement remains inherent in the logic of its construction.
