This paper considers the stalemate following Zimbabwe's national elections on 29 March 2008 and suggests ways to overcome this unstable situation. It outlines the course of the elections and immediate aftermath, describes how the results of the presidential elections were held back for five weeks and reviews the strategies of the ZANU-PF party and of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). Subsequently, the paper examines the role and involvement of external actors such as South Africa and the African Union and looks at the chances of African-led negotiations. The paper highlights that Zimbabwe has voted for change in the 29 March elections.
