This paper looks at the continuing conflict over breakaway Abkhazia between Georgia and Russia. It outlines the course of the diplomatic row of April 2008 and related security incidents, explores the danger of a military solution and looks at geopolitical influences such as Georgia's and Ukraine's bid to join NATO and Kosovo's declaration of independence. Subsequently, the paper reviews Tbilisi's conflict resolution policies. It concludes that that the frozen conflict will not be resolved until all three main actors show the necessary political will and not least until Russia is committed to more constructive conflict resolution policies.
