This paper 1) describes how Mesopotamia is unraveling following the collapse of Ba’athist Iraq and the onslaught of ISIS; 2) examines how Israel has historically played on Iraq’s internal divisions; and 3) contemplates how through their past military, economic and cultural cooperation, Israel and the Kurds have managed to deal with their political isolation. The text’s author additionally explores the extent to which Israeli-Iraqi Kurdish cooperation could play a role in a post-ISIS Iraq, primarily by creating an “energy triangle” with Turkey that could bright the Sykes-Picot Agreement to a ‘soft’ end.
