This text examines the Egyptian government’s militarized approach to public outreach since the overthrow of the Mubarak regime in 2011. It specifically focuses on the media management of the country’s Armed Forces, which have ranged from granting special access to state-friendly outlets to the censorship, repression and imprisonment of critical media. The text’s authors additionally analyze how Egypt’s military has successfully manipulated (and compromised) the media to create and maintain a heroic image of itself among the Egyptian people.
