This report looks at 112 cases where individuals were caught up in ISIS-inspired terrorist plans or offenses in the United States. After sifting through the data, the text’s authors arrived at counterintuitive conclusions – i.e., the terrorist wannabes were very similar to other Americans when it came to their marital status, education level and other factors. Additionally, they were mostly born and raised in the US, and a “notable portion” of them were converts from outside established Muslim communities.
