This publication discusses the fragility of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement following the death of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement’s leader John Garang. The author focuses on the succession movement in the south and the strain it has on south-north relations. The report concludes that lack of economic transparency in terms of oilfield revenues and future elections on the succession jeopardize the peace process and increase the likelihood of armed conflict along the borderlands.
