This policy brief looks at implications of the Polish parliamentary elections of October 2007 that produced a new governing coalition between the Civic Platform and the Polish People’s Party. The author states that the new government, headed by Donald Tusk, is set on changing the country's foreign policy profile by rebuilding ties with Germany and France to create a "Weimar Triangle" and lessening tensions with Russia. At the same time, Tusk is trying to rebalance relations with the US by slowing down the move toward missile defense and withdrawing Polish troops from Iraq.
