The main article of this issue addresses the counterterrorism challenges for the US presidency. The paper also looks at topics such as the US security assistance to Philippines in their fight against terrorism; the risk of takeovers of moderate Muslim institutions by radical and extremist Islamic groups; the role of radical madrasas in Southeast Asia; the religious nature of Salafi-Jihad ideology; and al-Qaida’s military role in the Afghan insurgency.
