This report examines the 2009 Iraqi provincial elections. It examines the political landscape in the provinces after the elections in 2005 providing details about the political factions as well as the factors that might influence the outcome such as tribalism and the use of dirty tricks. The report also provides an overview of the 'battleground states' where the elections take place.
