This paper addresses the course of events since the collapse of the autonomy negotiations between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Philippines government in summer 2008. It summarizes the political developments since the breakdown, discusses the importance of a ceasefire in central Mindanao and suggests ways to resume the autonomy negotiations. The paper concludes that, for the moment, all parties should concentrate on finding a formula for ending the military operations in central Mindanao.
