This paper examines the relationship between Kazakhstan's dominant Nur-Otan governing party, and the somewhat weaker opposition parties. It is argued that developments in the region have seen a slightly new model of party politics emerging, one in which a strong president is complemented by a dominant "super party" in the national legislature as the result of well-managed elections. The author also gives recommendations on how to revitalize political opposition in Kazakhstan.
