This report argues that China's increasing interest and participation in peacekeeping is a positive development for the UN and the international community. First, the report traces China's changing attitude toward peacekeeping. Then, it discusses the country's motivations for its recent enthusiasm. Finally, after examining China's principles and practice in the UN Security Council and identifying key agencies in Chinese peacekeeping, the report offers recommendations to the Chinese government, the UN secretariat and UN member states.
