This paper examines the increasingly strained relationship between the EU and Turkey, to include its root causes. The latter consist of the EU’s half-hearted interest in Turkey joining its ranks, the continued dominance of the Islamist AKP Party in the Turkish government, and more. Given these problems, the paper’s author concludes that Brussels should jettison its current dysfunctional approach towards Turkey and reevaluate its policies for the future.
