This text looks at the NPT and how its review process has evolved over the last two decades. More specifically, the text’s authors 1) provide detailed accounts of the proceedings and outcomes of the reviews held in 1995, 2000 and 2010, and 2) discuss what can be done to promote more productive and harmonious discussions during the preparations for the NPT's 2020 review. Ultimately, the authors argue that the information contained in their report is particularly important for two reasons – the growing indifference to the NPT, and the increasing loss of institutional memory in foreign ministries and research institutes on the workings of the Treaty’s review process.
