Given the Trump administration’s avowed goal to “eradicate radical Islamic terrorism,” this paper explores the unintended consequences such terminology might have on official US policy. While previous US administrations sought to avoid a direct association between Islam and the threat posed by terrorist groups, Trump’s words could impede intelligence cooperation with key Muslim states. Because of this potential problem and others, the text’s author believes the new administration needs to revamp its rhetoric as soon as possible.
