This paper examines the long shadow cast by the fighting in Syria over the peace talks between the Turkish government and its Kurdish minority. The text’s author specifically focuses on the impact of the 2014 battle of Kobane, where the promises of the Turkish government to the Kurdistan’s workers’ Party (PKK) and others were sorely tested. Basically, Erdogan’s AKP Party and the PKK had developed a consensus on particular interests, but when it came time to put them to the test, the Kurds demanded greater power in government – a demand, as we now know, that did not sit well with Erdogan’s political base
