Christoph Elhardt has been a PhD candidate at the Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS) since September 2011. Previously, he studied Political Science, History, and Sociology at the University of Innsbruck and the Institut d'études politiques in Paris. His diploma thesis examined the role of trust in international relations theory and was awarded the 2010 price for outstanding theses of the Austrian Political Science Association. After graduating with a Magister degree in Political Science from the University of Innsbruck, he spent one year as a Fulbright grantee at the University of Oklahoma.
In his dissertation project, Christoph Elhardt analyzes the role of trust within several domains of European integration. In particular, he investigates how EU government officials cope with the uncertainty and vulnerability emanating from dense, cooperative relations among states. His research interests include international relations and social theories, international political sociology, European monetary integration, and European foreign policy and security cooperation.
