Corinne Bara is a PhD candidate at the Center for Security Studies (CSS). She holds a Master's degree in Political Science from the University of Zurich. Prior to entering the PhD program, she worked as a researcher in the Risk & Resilience Research Group at the CSS, where she specialized in research on risk analysis and disaster management with a focus on resilience and social vulnerability. Her job included consultancy work for the Swiss Federal Administration. Corinne Bara previously worked for the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the International Relations and Security Network (ISN).
In her dissertation project on the causes of violent ethnic conflict, Corinne Bara examines the complex interplay of group incentives for rebellion (such as economic and political inequality), and the opportunity structure that is conducive to violent collective action (such as territorial concentration, natural resources, or state poverty). The aim of her dissertation is to build a configurational theory of ethnic conflict that identifies the specific constellations of incentives and opportunities under which conflict breaks out.
