Hagmann, Jonas, Dr.

 

Jonas Hagmann is a senior researcher at the Center for Security Studies (CSS). He studied International Relations and (Critical) Security Studies. He holds a Doctorate and a Master's degree in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva, and a Master's degree in Law and Diplomacy, and a Human Security Certificate from The Fletcher School, Boston. Prior to joining the CSS, he was a visiting researcher at the Centre for Advanced Security Theory, University of Copenhagen.

 

Jonas Hagmann specializes in sociological approaches to security and risk analysis. His research focuses on the rationalization of uncertainty, the politics of knowledge exchange in the security field, and changing configurations of professional security authority. His empirical field of research is European security politics. His current research projects include the social construction of fear and international order in Western Europe, the production of national risk registers, and the politics of knowledge provision and knowledge consumption within the Swiss security field.

 

Jonas Hagmann is co-initiator of the Critical Voices in Swiss International Relations network, a national platform dedicated to promoting reflexive IR. He taught MA and BA courses on International Relations Theory and Contemporary Security Studies at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva and ETH Zurich, and he is actively engaged in national policy consulting. His research has been awarded the Donald R. MacJannet Fellowship, the IHEID Geneva Doctoral Research Fellowship, the Swiss National Science Foundation Prospective Researcher Scholarship, and the IHEID Geneva Best PhD Thesis of the Institute Award.
