Jonas Hagmann is a senior researcher at the Center for Security Studies (CSS) and lecturer at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences, ETH Zürich. Jonas studied International Relations and (Critical) Security Studies. He holds a Doctorate and an MA in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, as well as an MA in Law and Diplomacy and a Human Security Certificate from The Fletcher School in Boston. In the past, he was a visiting researcher at the Centre for Advanced Security Theory, University of Copenhagen, as well as a visiting fellow at The New School for Public Engagement in New York.

Jonas Hagmann specializes in sociological approaches to security and risk politics, analyzing the political production, enactment and reformulation of representations of danger. His current research focuses on the construction of transnational danger imageries, the securitization of public space, and the rearrangement of political responsibility through risk. Starting in fall 2013, he is working on a two-year SNF research project on the political sociology of Swiss national security and foreign affairs.

Jonas Hagmann is founding member and co-chair of the Swiss Political Science Association’s International Political Sociology working group, a national platform dedicated to promoting reflexive IR. He teaches or taught MA and BA courses in International Relations Theory and Contemporary Security Studies at IHEID Geneva, ETH Zurich and University of Lucerne, and he is actively engaged in national and international policy consulting. Among other distinctions, his research has been awarded the Donald R. MacJannet Fellowship and the IHEID Geneva Best PhD Thesis Award.
