Mark Daniel Jaeger is a PhD candidate and a research assistant at the Center for Security Studies (CSS). He is writing his PhD dissertation on international sanctions policies. He studied political science, psychology and intercultural communication at the Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich, and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Prior to joining the CSS, he worked in the development sector for the GIZ (German International Cooperation, formerly German Technical Cooperation (GTZ)) in Bolivia, and for the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP).

Mark Daniel Jaeger specialized on theories of international relations and international political economy, with a particular emphasis on reflexive security. He currently focuses on the construction of uncertainties and risks, and the effects of unintended consequences.

He participates, together with Prof. Dr. Katharina Michaelowa and Daisuke Hayashi from the Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS), in the international research project Challenges of European External Energy Governance: Meeting Tiger, Dragon, Lion and Jaguar. The project focuses on two major global challenges that the EU is currently facing: first, the establishment of a multipolar world order with emerging powers as prospective cooperation partners; and second, the challenges of a secure, competitive and sustainable EU External Energy Policy towards major consumer countries. In the project, scholars and practitioners from Europe, China, India, Brazil and South Africa are jointly working in a multidisciplinary approach on the topic. The project is funded by the German Volkswagen Stiftung, the Swedish Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and the Italian Compagnia di San Paolo.
