Ursula Jasper is a senior researcher at the Center for Security Studies (CSS). She holds a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of St. Gallen (for her thesis on The Politics of Nuclear Reversal – A Pragmatist Analysis) and a Master's degree in International Politics and Security Studies from the University of Bradford (UK). Prior to joining CSS, she was a research assistant at the University of St. Gallen and a pre-doctoral fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University (funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation). She has also worked as a journalist in the past.
In her research, Ursula Jasper focuses on sociological approaches to security studies in general and to nuclear (non-)proliferation in particular. Using the literature on American Pragmatism as a theoretical point of departure, she develops an alternative framework for the analysis of states' nuclear policies. Her current research projects moreover include analyses of the sources of «nuclear behavior», (European) narratives of threat and danger as well as a study related to forward reasoning and policy advice.
