Aglaya Snetkov is a senior researcher at the Center for Security Studies (CSS). She holds a Doctorate from the University of Birmingham, and Master degrees in History (University of Oxford) and in Russian and East European Studies (University of Birmingham). She has taught at the Universities of Birmingham, Leicester and Central Lancashire, and was a visiting research fellow at the Higher School of Economics, Moscow.

Her main primary research interests revolve around non-Western security and IR; critical security studies; norms and narratives; and intrastate conflicts. The main empirical focus of her research is on Russia and the wider Eurasian region. She is currently working on two book projects: a sole-authored book on the evolution of Russian security policy under Putin and Medvedev, and a workshop/book project entitled The Other Sides of Afghanistan: A Regional Perspective on Security Issues in Afghanistan, which is funded by Swiss National Science Foundation. In addition, she is working on articles on the social construction of the BRIC, interpretivism and Russian foreign policy, and the place of area studies in critical security studies. As well as her own academic research, Aglaya Snetkov is an editor of the Russian Analytical Digest (RAD), a bi-weekly analytical publication covering political, foreign policy, economic and social developments in Russia.
