Tala Dowlatshahi joined the ISN in January 2012 as head of the communities team. Prior to her role with the ISN, she served as the United Nations Bureau Chief for Talk Radio News Service. From 2001 to 2007, she worked with the United Nations (WHO, UNDP, and DPI) in Geneva and New York. Her position as communications advisor gave her responsibilities in countries including Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Uganda. Her role involved working with the media, developing the website and strategic communications, training, and overseeing promotional materials and publications. Tala Dowlatshahi is an expert in online social media having partnered with groups including the International Center for Journalists to create interactive online courses and Livestream to develop entrepreneurial and multimedia global social change programs. She is a member of the Overseas Press Club and serves as the senior advisor on the USA board of Reporters Sans Frontières. Tala Dowlatshahi holds a Master's degree in International Development with a focus on the Middle East from New York University and a Bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley in Mass Communications.
