International: Products

The international think-tank products of the Center provide concise information on international security policy and seek to foster dialog on international security policy.

CSS Analysis in Security Policy

The policy brief series CSS Analysis in Security Policy offers a focused discussion of current developments and events in international security. The briefs are published in three languages: the English version is geared at an international audience, the German and French versions often look more closely at what the respective security issues mean for Switzerland. In doing so, they reflect an institutional viewpoint of the CSS.

Strategic Trends

The Strategic Trends series offers a concise analysis of major developments in world affairs, with a primary focus on international security. The annual volumes provide succinct interpretations of key trends and contain numerous graphics.

Russian Analytical Digest (RAD)

The Russian Analytical Digest (RAD) analyzes recent events, trends and developments within contemporary Russian politics, economics and business, foreign policy, security and society. The bi-weekly e-publication is produced by a partner network that includes the Center for Security Studies (CSS), the Research Centre for East European Studies at the University of Bremen, and the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at the George Washington University.

Caucasus Analytical Digest (CAD)

The Caucasus Analytical Digest (CAD) analyzes the political, economic, and social situation in the three South Caucasus states of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, and assesses the implications for the regional and wider international context. The bi-monthly e-publication is produced by the Center for Security Studies (CSS), the Research Centre for East European Studies at the University of Bremen, and the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at the George Washington University.

Risk and Resilience Reports

The risk and resilience reports provide a focused discussion of aspects of security risks and vulnerabilities, risk analysis and management, emergency preparedness, and crisis management – often with a specific focus on implications for Switzerland. They are produced by the Risk & Resilience Research Group at the CSS.

Mediation Reports/Studies

The aim of the mediation reports is to support mediators and negotiators in gaining knowledge and skills for effective peace negotiations and conflict transformation. They are produced by the Mediation Support Project (MSP), which is a joint endeavor of the CSS and swisspeace, and the Culture and Religion in Mediation (CARIM) program. MSP publications focus on mediation in track 1 peace processes. CARIM publications focus on how to deal with the cultural and religious dimensions of conflict and mediation.

Other Reports/Studies

The CSS publishes various reports on security policy issues.

International Security Forum (ISF)

The International Security Forum (ISF) was launched in Zurich in 1994 and has since been at the forefront of cooperation among international security professionals around the world. Over the years, the ISF has brought together hundreds of political leaders, top civil servants and military officials, scholars, and media representatives from some 50 countries. The conference is biennial and is held alternately in Zurich and Geneva.

Zurich Strategic Dialogue

The Zurich Strategic Dialogue brings together up to 25 leading security policy experts from the fields of politics, the administration, the armed forces, think-tanks, and academia. The informal conversations promote the exchange of views on current and future security policy challenges and strengthen existing networks as well as support the emergence of new ones.

Other Events

The CSS organizes a number of workshops to promote cooperation and the exchange of ideas between academics and security policy-makers engaged in practical work.

Media Contributions

The CSS fosters public discussion on security policy through regular media contributions. The secretariat of the CSS will be glad to handle your requests for interviews, articles, and analysis. Please contact Astrid Karrer (karrer@sipo.gess.ethz.ch; +41 44 632 40 25).
