The CSS's research and policy work in the field of «Conflict, Peace, and Mediation» focuses on civilian and military approaches to prevent, manage, resolve, and transform violent political conflicts. The aim is to assess what works, what does not work, and why. Based on this analysis, be it on the policy or operational level, approaches are developed that seek to support mutually acceptable outcomes between parties in conflict and minimize the use of violence, and that are seen as fair and efficient by the relevant constituencies. Areas of focus include mediation, religion, the environment, Swiss peace policy, peace support operations, and human security.
