The debate about the future role of nuclear arms in Europe for transatlantic security has intensified. It can be expected to continue after NATO's Lisbon summit of November 2010, on which occasion the alliance adopted its new strategic concept. One important reason why the debate within NATO about nuclear weapons and nuclear disarmament will go on is US President Barack Obama’s vision of a world without nuclear weapons.
