Mediation Support Project (MSP)

The Mediation Support Project (MSP) supports mediators and conflict parties in gaining knowledge and skills for effective peace negotiations. MSP was founded in 2005 as a joint venture between the Center for Security Studies (CSS) and swisspeace. The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (Political Affairs Division IV, Human Security) is the initiator and main partner of MSP.

Research and Knowledge Management

MSP develops peace mediation methodology and topical expertise, drawing on the experience of peace mediators, in particular of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. MSP organizes the annual Peace Mediation Course, a specialized two-week training.

Training and Retreats

MSP designs and implements tailor-made trainings and retreats in peace mediation. The focus group includes diplomats, ambassadors, peace promotion experts, UN staff, and mediators, as well as conflict parties.

Networking

MSP provides networking platforms for peace mediators, such as roundtables or international gatherings, and develops information network tools. MSP coordinates the Mediation Support Network.

Process Support

MSP provides direct support to mediators and conflict parties in ongoing mediation processes.
