This paper describes how the global world order is shifting away from the post-Cold War unipolar model towards a more multipolar system. The author examines how Germany can best operate in this new multipolar world, arguing that due to its demographics and lack of economic dynamism, Berlin's only chance to remain a relevant power in the future is to work together with a strengthened EU and strong European partners. He also contends that German and European policymakers must contribute as much as possible to a new liberal international order based on the previous model to which, he believes, many owe their prosperity, security and freedom today.
