This publication discusses the proposed China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC), which will stretch from Kunming in the Yunnan province of China to Mandalay in central Myanmar and beyond. Among other issues, the author looks at 1) what the CMEC could mean for India; 2) how the CMEC and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) lack the sort of comprehensive strategy ‘corridor’ projects need to enhance regional economic integration; 3) how Myanmar runs the risk of developing ties with China based on ‘extractive’ economic relations, and more.
