This report explores the interrelated nature of energy and defense within the Nordic-Baltic region. Key topics include 1) the threat posed by Russian assertiveness to the region, and how energy –including European dependence on Russian gas– plays a key part in Moscow’s regional strategy; 2) how energy consequently is a priority concern for NATO and its capacity to deter Russia; and 3) Poland and Norway’s perceptions of the threat posed by Russia as well as energy cooperation with the country; 4) how pragmatic cooperation between Poland and Norway may reinforce regional security, and more.
