Can mediators operating in conflicts around the world actually promote the ever-expanding list of prevailing peacekeeping norms? To answer this question, this paper reviews mediation processes in Syria, South Sudan and Myanmar to explore 1) which norms comprise an integral part of the current framework for mediation processes; 2) whether or not mediators can promote these norms in practice; and 3) how these norms are internalized into peace processes.
