This paper examines the potential impact of a UK departure from the EU on future European integration. The authors suggest that a Brexit would have adverse consequences for both the EU and the UK, with efforts to formulate post-departure agreements struggling to reflect the economic and political interests of individual parties. The paper poses that individual preferences will be contingent on three factors: the scale and intensity of single-market ties to the UK, the convergence of views on economic policy at the EU level, and the future vision of EU integration.
